This Air Traveler's Simple Act of Kindness Is Melting Hearts Everywhere
Faith in humanity has been restored.
When confronted with screaming children on a plane, most of us react by rolling our eyes, sighing, and muttering to whoever is sitting next to us that children should be banned from flights (and maybe asking the flight attendant for a few of those tiny bottles of booze).
But when Jessica Rudeen's 3-year-old daughter, Caroline, started throwing a temper tantrum, and her 4-month-old baby, Alexander, began crying on an American Airlines flight, fellow passenger Todd Walker, 51, stepped in to help.
Walker asked the 34-year-old mom if he could hold the little guy, and she immediately handed him over. While Walker helped the baby settle down, Rudeen put on Caroline's favorite movie, Trolls, which calmed her down as well.
Walker gave the baby back to Rudeen, and then talked to Caroline so as to distract her for long enough to let the mother feed her child.
But the kindness didn't end there. The Arkansas native, who was traveling to Wilmington, North Carolina, had the same connection as Walker in Charlotte, so he helped them off the plane and led Caroline to their departing gate by hand. He then changed his seat on the flight so he could sit next to the family and continue to help out.
It might not seem like a lot, but his simple act of kindness was a big deal to the struggling mother. She posted about the encounter on her Facebook page, saying, "This guy, Todd, showed me kindness and compassion that I've never known from another person. His wife, he said, had a similar experience when their two boys were young and a stranger showed her the same kindness. I am blown away by God's hand in this because we could have been placed next to anyone, but we were seated next to one of the nicest men I have ever met in my life."
Since it was posted two weeks ago, the heartwarming story of kindness has been liked 24,000 times and shared almost 7,000 times. Jessica posted an update recently saying that she located Todd's wife and now the two families are planning to meet up.
The story is a wonderful reminder of just how little it takes sometimes to make a miracle in someone else's life.
