Emma Thompson Tries to Kiss Prince William During Damehood Ceremony, Goes Viral
Hey, you can't fault a girl for trying!
Today, British national treasure Emma Thompson attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace to become Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (which is the female equivalent of a knighthood).
And being the all-around legend that she is, the celebrated actress wore a navy pantsuit, white sneakers, and an equal pay badge to receive one of the highest honors in the country.
Oh, and no big deal, but she asked Prince William, who was presenting the award, if she could kiss him. He said no, but it was an admirably bold move.
"I love Prince William. I've known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other," she told the AP. "I said, 'I can't kiss you, can I?' And he said, 'No don't'!"
The cheeky attempt was totally in character. After all, this is a woman who walked onstage barefoot at the 2014 Golden Globes, carrying a martini in one hand and her red-bottom Louboutins in the other before chucking them. This is also a woman who, at 59, is brimming with vitality, and who made it clear that a good sense of humor and a positive attitude is the true key to the fountain of youth.
