Cristiano Ronaldo Finally Gets the Handsome Statue He Deserves
The sculptor of the soccer star's infamous bust just unveiled a much better one.
Back in March, the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Madeira, Portugal, where the famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is from, unveiled a statue of him in his honor. Now, if you only know two things about Ronaldo it's that 1) he's a world-famous soccer star who plays for the Spanish club Real Madrid, and 2) he's an insanely handsome man. Unfortunately, the bust did not quite capture the latter, leaving the Internet in stitches.
The artist, Emanuel Santos, defended the work, telling a Portuguese website that "from the messages [Ronaldo] sent, I could tell that he liked what he saw." According to Santos, the only thing he asked for was that the wrinkles be changed because "it made him look older." Yeah, that's definitely the issue.
Apparently, the son of the renowned Sevillian sculptor Jose Antonio Navarro Arteaga was so distraught over the ugly bust that he begged his father to create a new one. That he did, and now, a much more accurate likeness of the soccer star is on display at the Real Madrid museum in Madrid, Spain.
It's already being praised for actually resembling Ronaldo, and is already becoming the subject of its own meta-meme.
If there's any criticism of the new statue, it's that the soccer player player apparently looks too handsome. It all goes to show: "CR7" has a much easier time scoring on the pitch than in museums.
