Here's How Much Worse COVID Is Getting in Your State
The rate of daily new cases is alarming in nearly every U.S. state.

With so much of our national focus on the presidential election, coverage of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has fallen somewhat to the wayside. The situation, however, has only gotten worse. New cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are continuing to rise, with many states experiencing more catastrophic numbers than they've seen since this all began. To get a clearer picture of where the virus is furthest from being contained, we're looking at the rate of daily new cases per 100,000 people and seeing how much worse the COVID outbreak is getting in every state.
The daily new case rate data comes from the Brown School of Public Health's COVID Risk Levels map, which breaks things down into four different colors based on the number of new coronavirus cases over the last seven days: green ("on track for containment"), yellow ("community spread"), orange ("accelerated spread"), and red ("tipping point"). Currently, there are no green states, and a staggering 26 red states, many of which significantly surpass the minimum cut-off of 25 daily new cases per 100,000 people.
