13 Coronavirus Symptoms That Are More Common Than a Sore Throat

This common sign of a cold or the flu is far from the most common sign of coronavirus.

Identifying all the potential symptoms of the coronavirus has been one of the most prominent points of confusion during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some patients exhibit mild respiratory symptoms. Others experience digestive issues. Still others only report a temporary loss of their sense of taste and smell. Meanwhile, some remain entirely asymptomatic and others deal with life-threatening breathing difficulties. With all the comparisons to the flu, you might think something like a sore throat is a common coronavirus symptom. But new research shows it's far from it.

In a recent study published in the The British Medical Journal, researchers found that a sore throat is not only a less common symptom of coronavirus than you might expect, but it isn't even one of the top 10 most common symptoms patients experience. The researchers monitored the cases of 20,133 individuals with COVID-19 admitted to 208 acute care hospitals in England, Wales, and Scotland. Based on their findings, here are the 13 most common coronavirus symptoms and the percentage of patients who experienced each.
