29 Sex Tips for Next-Level Loving

Read on for some exciting ways to spice things up in the bedroom. Below, you'll find 29 important pieces of sex advice that will leave your partner wowed and wanting more.

1. Have more morning sex.

We're busier, more stressed, and pulled in more directions than ever before. In the crunch, activities that aren't deemed essential may get sidelined. For couples juggling work and family commitments, 15 minutes of morning sex may seem like a luxury they need to skip.

Bad move! Sex in the morning is not only time efficient—you're both there, in bed and unclothed—it's also a way to start your day on a positive note. Plus, sex has been proven to speed more oxygen to the brain—meaning that by having some first thing in the AM, you could be setting yourself up for a more productive day.

2. Don't be afraid to expand the repertoire.

Sexual satisfaction isn't only achieved through penetrative sex. In fact, women rarely rely on the act to get off. As certified sex therapist Carol Queen reminds readers in The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone, "Most [women] do not orgasm from vaginal insertion alone; if you have heard the opposite, or believe that intercourse is the only 'natural' way to come, take our word for it: This is a myth."

In keeping with Queen's sex tips for women, we suggest incorporating a variety of sex acts into your bedroom routine. Whether she prefers oral sex, mutual masturbation, or even anal sex, that's up to you and your partner to decide.

3. Engage in some dirty talk.

Participating in dirty talk can also help liven up your encounters. These exchanges allow you to explore sexual fantasies in a way that's less clinical than other conversations surrounding sex can feel. Dirty talk also communicates a level of enthusiasm we don't often express outside of the bedroom. And, according to some existing research, it could even lead to better sex.

Back in 2020, the prescription delivery service Superdrug Online Doctor conducted a study of 990 participants. Those who reported the highest levels of sexual satisfaction also admitted to regularly engaging in dirty talk with their partners. Top turn-ons revolved around compliments, sexual requests, and nicknames. So the next time you start worrying about sex getting stale, talk dirty to her and see what happens.

4. Entertain a sex game.

Here's one sex tip you may not have expected to see on the list: throw a little competition into the mix. Seriously, sex games are out there, and most players say they're well worth the time. And there's something for everyone—whether you're hoping for a game of naked twister, or are leaning more towards something like sex toy roulette, you've got options on your side. According to the experts, these games can help increase sexual tension, which sets the stage for heightened arousal and more intense orgasms.

5. Quit smoking.

A healthy sex life begins with a healthy you. A 2011 study shows that quitting smoking results in thicker, firmer, faster erections. To test the study participants' hard-ons, researchers used something called a penile plethysmograph, which measures changes in circumference and hardness, while the men watched porn.

During the eight-week study, 31 percent of participants who had successfully quit smoking had fuller erections than before. And 75 percent of the quitters who suffered from erectile dysfunction at the beginning of the study no longer did by the end.

6. Drink coffee.

If you're looking for a habit to replace cigarettes, drink coffee for the sake of your sex life. A 2015 study released by the University of Texas Health Science Center found that men who consumed between 85 and 170 milligrams of caffeine daily were 42 percent less likely to report erectile dysfunction than those who didn't consume any. Researchers explained that caffeine makes the muscles in the penis more relaxed, allowing for increased blood flow and therefore stronger erections.

7. Exercise to sexercise.

Research published in the National Library of Medicine found that men who are sedentary were more likely to experience erectile dysfunction, while Harvard's School of Public Health found that men who participate in vigorous activity for 20 to 30 minutes are about 50 percent less likely to have problems getting an erection than inactive men.

8. Fill your toy box.

We're living in something of a golden age for sex toys. Not only are they more effective than ever at making their users feel good, but companies like Lelo and Jimmy Jane are also designing beautiful toys and marketing them in a sophisticated and debonair way. And don't think that sex toys are just for solo play. A 2020 study conducted by sexual wellness company Ella Paradis found that 63 percent of buyers purchase toys to enjoy with a partner. Only 23 percent insisted on keeping the goods to themselves.

9. Get in the zone[s].

Women (and men) have far more erogenous zones than the handful we fixate on. Stimulating one—her brain—by encouraging her to think about what she likes. Give a similar amount of attention to her scalp, ears, neck, wrists, fingers, and feet, and make tonight's session an all-body experience.

10. Eat dark chocolate.

There's a reason chocolate became a gift traditionally given before amorous activity. Cacao increases levels of the mood-boosting hormone serotonin, which can lower stress levels, boosting desire and making it easier to reach orgasm. And that's not all: Cocoa also increases blood flow through the arteries and relaxes blood vessels, sending blood to all the right regions, which can boost sexual pleasure. As it so happens, in addition to the fact that chocolate can improve your sex life, it can stratospherically boost your workout too.

11. Drop a few pounds.

An Italian study from 2004 demonstrated that overweight men with BMIs of 28.7 (that's around 195 pounds for a 5'9" male) have a 30 percent greater risk for developing erectile dysfunction than men of a normal weight. Additionally, dropping pounds can effectively increase the size of your penis via a reduction of fat in your pubic area. A larger penis that you can rely upon when needed? What more motivation do you need for getting on the elliptical?

12. Eat watermelon.

Watermelon is one of the richest natural sources of L-citrulline, an amino acid that can help make your erection harder. Once it's in the body, it converts to L-arginine, stimulating the production of nitric oxide, which increases blood flow to the penis, strengthening erections, which will—here's a no-brainer—improve your sex life.

13. Stay slow and steady.

It's not true of all women, but many report that a prolonged session of kissing and above-the-clothes groping greatly heightens their level of arousal, often indicated by the amount of natural vaginal lubricant she produces. Although your unbridled enthusiasm will be appreciated, getting her all juiced up before your fingers have wandered between her legs will really pay dividends if you're looking to make a lasting impression.

If you see her squirming, rubbing her thighs together, spreading her legs, or simply grabbing your hand and placing it on her crotch, a successful session is practically in the bag. Pro tip: Put together a great playlist you'll both enjoy and spend three average-length songs at first and second base. By the time you round third, she'll be waving you in.

14. Strike a new pose.

If you've been together for a while, you've probably found some sex positions that really work for both of you. It's good that you know how to get each other off efficiently. But don't let good be the enemy of great. Take some time to try a few new things.

They needn't be acrobatic, either. Just small variations on your old favorites can make a world of difference. For example: The coital alignment technique, or CAT position, is a subtle variation on missionary, but the increased clitoral stimulation it yields for her, the snugger feel and the up-and-down (as opposed to in-and-out) motion it requires from you can be a game changer.

15. Manscape.

If you're more confident about your penis, you'll be more cocksure when you're wielding it in the bedroom. One way to get it looking its best and biggest is to trim down an excess of bush. You needn't go all Ken doll, but some modest manicuring may reveal an extra inch of shaft that's being unnecessarily obscured.

16. Share your fantasies.

Sometimes we forget: Part of being in a long-term relationship is having a partner with whom you can share everything. If you're close enough to sit on the toilet with the door open, you really ought to be comfortable sharing the thoughts that turn you on.

Be open about what turns you on and accepting of whatever she tells you. Many fantasies will stay unrealized, while you may find that others end up being on your dirty to-do list. But whether they do or don't end up happening isn't really the point. The goal is for you and your partner to learn about other aspects of your sexuality.

17. Do yoga.

An Indian study demonstrated that men who took up yoga were able to triple the amount of time they lasted in bed. Researchers concluded that yoga improved core strength and pelvic muscle control, which helped prolong the time before the men had an orgasm.

18. Sext.

Got a smartphone? Then you have a photo studio and editing suite at your disposal. Why not use it to send alluring pictures back and forth when you're apart from one another. Sexting is remote foreplay, during which you can stimulate each other and build anticipation for the next time you're alone together.

19. Watch porn together.

A good way to realize your fantasies is to share some of the porn clips you like or even search for new clips together. Seeing one another's tastes in porn is a great way to know more about the kind of stimuli you respond to. Perhaps what your partner's into isn't your exact cup of tea, but make this a part of your sexy quality time together and chances are you'll find some dirty common ground. If porn isn't really her thing, ask her to share erotic literature that turns her on, then take turns reading aloud to one another.

20. Talk to her.

You can tell her anything, right? Then don't be anything but direct—albeit gentle—about how you'd like things to change in the bedroom. It's best to have this talk sooner or later. Does she do something you're not particularly fond of? Use it to tell her about what you do like. You can start this conversation by asking her to tell you what she loves about the sex you have and what she's not so crazy about.

21. You be you.

You're each other's one and only. If that's what works for you, great. But it shouldn't mean that you're one another's keepers. If you're always in each other's pockets, your relationship may get stale faster than if you had a semblance of an independent life. Try not to become dependent on each other's company and maintain or cultivate a rich social life of your own.

Don't miss out on the activities you like to do, even if she doesn't. Flirt a little. Encourage her to do the same. Even if we're monogamous, it's important to remind ourselves—and each other—that we still have value on the sexual marketplace.

22. Spice things up.

A recent study by French researchers found that men who eat the most spicy foods tend to have higher testosterone levels than those with milder palates. Study authors attribute the T-boosting effects in part to capsaicin, a compound in chilies that previous research has associated with increased testosterone levels.

Seriously spicy serrano peppers are also packed with quercetin, a nutrient shown to boost testosterone levels in the body by reducing the amount that's otherwise flushed out by the kidneys. Capsaicin, the compound that makes tabasco sauce hot, releases chemicals that increase heart rate, mirror signs of arousal, and rev your libido.

23. Reflect on your sex life.

Get a mirror, man. Seriously. A large leaning mirror close to the bed provides an eye-opening new perspective on and will exponentially improve your sex life. It gives you all of the benefits of making a sex video without the risk of it popping up when you're giving a PowerPoint presentation. Also, you'll give yourself an extra incentive to stay in shape. Speaking of which…

24. Take pride in your appearance.

Having a mate can lead to letting some aspects of your personal presentation slide. It's nice to get comfortable. But getting too comfortable can be the first step on the road to being sloppy. If you and your partner have decided to forsake all others, don't make each other live to regret it. Hit the gym, update your wardrobe periodically, acquaint yourself with trends (while still leaning classic), and stay on top of your personal grooming. Not only will you increase the likelihood that she's excited to be on your arm, but she'll also reciprocate in kind. It's a win-win!

25. Have a couple of drinks.

Although "whiskey dick" is real, an Australian study of 1,580 men has shown that drinkers reported up to 30 percent fewer problems in the bedroom than those who abstained from alcohol altogether. However, researchers were quick to mention the males' respective partners were not there to corroborate their stories. So take that one with a salt rim.

26. Make out like bandits.

It started with a kiss, right? Funny, then, that making out gets sidelined once you've gotten in the deep groove of a monogamous relationship. Don't only think of making out as something that has to lead to sex. When we kiss, our brains respond by releasing oxytocin, a feel-good chemical that helps us feel connected to our mates. That's a vital part of staying together for the long haul.

27. Reacquaint yourself with the equipment.

rostock-studio/Shutterstock

Simply put: She's working with a lot you don't have. Probe the internet or crack a book and give yourself a refresher on what parts tend to respond favorably to what stimuli. Be reminded, for example, that some women find direct contact with the clitoris too intense and that simulating the area around it or manipulating it through the clitoral hood is a great way to start gauging her comfort level.

Learn about how rubbing an area around two or three inches into the vagina and on the front anterior wall may be something that she's a fan of. (While you're researching, you'd also better look up what "anterior" means.)

28. Flip the script, slow your roll.

It's not always the case, but a common complaint women have is that men's sexual response doesn't always line up with theirs, timing-wise. No one likes to be the proverbial two-pump chump.

If you feel like you're always getting close to the "point of no return" too quickly, get in the habit of pulling out. Then go down on her, stimulate her manually, kiss her other erogenous zones or simply make out until things have simmered down a little. Employ this technique enough, and you'll be able to get a better sense of your own response, gradually lengthening the amount of time you can have intercourse.

29. Scout out new locations.

Certain logistics make it difficult to expand the list of places we like to get it on (remember, public sex is illegal, and hotels can get expensive fast). But that doesn't mean we have to give up on the goal—getting creative at home is good enough. Shower sex is a fun way to mix things up. Kitchen counters can also come in handy. Washing machines and armchairs provide opportunities for fun, too. Think about where you can get down outside of the bedroom, and go from there.
